ABOUT US
Michigan Weimaraner Rescue, Inc. is a not for profit,
federal 501(c)3 charitable organization founded in 1993. Michigan
Weimaraner Rescue Inc is now a State registered Animal Placement Shelter.
With the tireless help of 70 plus volunteers who are dedicated to finding
forever homes for displaced Weimaraners, we foster and place on average
75 dogs a year. We rely 100% on grants, fundraisers, private contributions,
and adoption donations to care for the dogs currently in our rescue; all
donations are welcome and needed.
All of our rescues are spayed or neutered (including puppies), current
on Rabies vaccination, heartworm tested and treated if necessary. They
also receive monthly heartworm preventative and are microchipped before
being placed.
Weims entering our program are fostered with MWR for a minimum of two
weeks. During this period the dogs are evaluated and temperament tested
by Chris Conklin our founder and director, who has over 22 years experience
as an all-breed dog trainer, and 16 years specializing in Weimaraner Behavior.
We truly believe that by taking our time to get to know each dog as an
individual, we can assure both the adoptive families and our Weims the
best match for lifelong companionship. Our goal is to not only save Weims,
but to find the perfect "forever home" for each dog. The time
taken in choosing the right match means you will not only welcome your
new Weim's distinctive personality, but will be able to enjoy it to the
utmost.
We are a proud member of Michigan Purebred Dog Rescue Alliance.
Michigan Weimaraner Rescue, Inc. operates under the auspices of the Weimaraner
Club of America Rescue Committee, according to guidelines established
by the Weimaraner Club of America and the American Kennel Club.

Robert Howell
is a MWR Board Member, Petsmart Charities, and a
Purina Rally to Rescue Program Coordinator. After thousands
of miles doing transports, numerous Petsmart Charities and
Purina Rally to Rescue Program events, Robert says his only
regret is that he couldn’t keep all of the dogs he fostered.
“The plus side of adoptions is that these dogs are living
out their lives with families that thank us every day for
the joy and life we helped bring into their lives. Weimaraners’
facial expressions are priceless,” explains Robert.
“Their intelligence is only surpassed by their loyalty
and willingness to please. I wish I could tap into their unlimited
energy source.” |

Lexi and Brandon Davis
Lexi and Brandon, seen here with Bella and Brogan,
are annual hosts for the Charlotte Frontier Day parade which
is enjoyed by Weims and volunteers alike.

|
|
Lisa Jones
A seasoned volunteer, she has made herself invaluable
as an MWR pet sitter super extraordinaire. She and Indy team
up to handle all the dogs at Chris's as well as frequently
do short term fosters. And Lisa's cats are really put to the
test, as numerous visitors to their home are the Weims whose
feelings about cats are unknown.
|
 |
Natalie (and Joel) Lenz
Natalie and Joel Lenz are there to help however
needed, from Natalie writing the quarterly MWR newsletter
and maintaining the rescue database to Joel putting up fences
and playing Santa Claus at PetSmart. Rescues Jenny and Ayla
are always gracious in accepting a new foster into their home
(most of the time, anyway.)

At right, Duncan is now Canadian,
adopted recently by Gord and Carol Wood. He'll be camping
in their air conditioned camper tonight and then on to Canada
tomorrow. They live on a 100 acre farm, and we think it'll
be just fabulous for Duncan! -Jean and Glenn
